An Update From Michael

I'm still in the hospital — and, ironically, in a part with no Internet. People have been reading me some of the e-mails and comments that have been sent and I'm very grateful, but unable to respond. It looks like I'll be in the hospital as much as another week. I hope once I get out to be able to thank people more directly.

Tell Michael that Carlos Miller wishes him a full recovery.

Recovery takes a long time, so don't rush things, even though I KNOW you are impatient.
You don't want me to have to scold you, now do you MIchael?

Order the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. It's a nice break from Turkey and Mashed Potatoes (special thanks to Dan Quail )

Oh, and here's hopes for a successful and speedy recovery, too.

A man goes to see his doctor.
He has a banana in one ear, a cucumber in the other, and two small carrots in each nostril.
The Doctor looks at him and says,
"You don't seem to be eating properly."

Now relax and enjoy the break from lectures.

So glad to hear you are getting well, Michael. If you can't write, at least you can think and dream. Enjoy them and continue your recovery.

Best wishes for your recovery.

If the issue in getting back to your writing is your position in bed or the physical aspect of typing (rather than pain, drugs, mental clarity, access to references, etc.) you might consider experimenting with voice recognition. Nuance, the owner of Dragon Naturally Speaking, recently bought Macspeach and now offers a Mac version based on the Dragon code. Nothing comparable for Linux yet, but it should be possible eventually, now that it's been ported to OS-X. It's not so good for editing, or for technical writing with lots of formatting, special characters, mouse usage, etc. (all thta is possible but awkward), but it might enable you to dictate e-mail, blog posts, or first drafts, if you are so inclined. The accuracy is much better and the learning curve much shorter than a few years ago.

Forget about your work, forget about your pc, forget about having an internet connect, just don't forget about yourself. All you need to have in mind is how you could actually recover. Michael Sheds and other of your blog followers are looking forward to your fast recovery.
