  1. I’ve seen clips from and references to I Go Pogo (a.k.a. pogo for president) but I had it down as from the ’80 elections…granted this seems difficult given that Walt Kelly had been dead at that point for almost 8 years….but I’m curious for more info, if you have any? Doesn’t seem to be a dvd or vhs alternative, much less a wmv to download, so I have no source here.

I think “I go Pogo” was a take-off on “I like Ike”. You can buy collections of the first few years of Pogo comic strips here: http://www.fantagraphics.com/classic/pogo/pogo.html
I bought a couple for my dad last year and he & I & my brother enjoyed them a lot. I bought the volume with episodes with Simple J Malarkey, aka Joe McCarthy.

A very good Pogo site (not least because it has good links): http://www.igopogo.com/

It is not un-American not to know your Pogo. But you will understand and love your country more if you do!

“We have met the enemy and he is us.”

Ahh – Pogo – the best political cartoon there ever was. I have all of his stuff (I think). The end of the refain for the I Go Pogo song was:

…it’s golly I go goo goo goin’ go-go Pogo.
