Elizabeth Edwards Is Wonderful

One of the reasons I ended up being a John Edwards fan was Elizabeth Edwards. I figured anyone who she would marry had to be OK. Here's more evidence for the proposition that she's great: Elizabeth Edwards reads Daily Kos. She also contributes to the Kerry-Edwards blog.

    Dear Elizabeth Edwards.
Let us imagine that GWB commented on the loss of your son in a car accident as proof that John Edwards should be able to agree that his policy of pro-life, as the protection of life, was the right course to take.
And if you were outraged afterward, the Republican campaign would say, “Fair Game” and Mrs. Cheney would say, “They must be ashamed of the life their son lead”.
Obviously your husband John is with the “wrong candidate, in the wrong election, at the wrong time.”
I am gravely disappointed that you are going along with this tact to hurt these people. Our children are the love of our lives and not to be used as campaign fodder.

Breast: I was diagnosis With Same as you have Feb 2003. Wasn’t an easy road for me however this poem mean much:
It’s In the Valley I Grow

Sometimes life seems hard to bear,
Full of sorrow, trouble and woe
It’s then I have to remember
That it’s in the valleys I grow

If I slways stayed on the mountain top
    And never experienced pain,
I would never appreciate God’s love
And would be living in Vain.

I have so much to learn
And my growth is very slow,
Sometimes I need the mountain tops,
But it’s in the vlleys I grow.

    I do not always understand
Why things happen as they do,
But I am very sure of one thing.
My Lord will see me through.

    My little valleys are nothing
When I picture Christ on the cross
    He went through the valley of death;
    His victory was Satan’s loss.

    Forgive me Lord, for complaining
When I’m feeling so very low.
Just give me a gentle reminder
That it’s in the valleys I grow.

    Continue to strengthen me Lord
And use my life each day
To share your love with others
And help them find their way>

Thank you Lord for Valleys, Lord
For this one thing I know
    The mountain tops are glorious
But it’s in the valleys I grow.

All the surgery, chemo & radiation seem like a nightmare. I am now doing fine, and pray the same for you
    .God Bless and Good Luck.

    Dear Elizabeth,
When I heard the news of your breast cancer diagnosis, I wanted very much to get in touch with you, and wish you well. I voted for your husband first for president in the primaries, and then for vice president this week. I cannot imagine how hard this has been for you. As a breast cancer survivor, I hope I can offer you some encouragement: I had a similar diagnosis 31 years ago, and I feel strongly that a positive outlook really does make a difference in survival. Especially in your case, you have the future with those two beautiful little children to reinforce a positive outlook!
You are in my prayers. Mary C. Masser

“When a child dies, the other members of the family tend to become afraid -in part because they also, perhaps unconsciously, feel the kind of love that makes them want to follow the child. In order to contain their fear, they deaden their feelings. They effectively shut the child out of their hearts and souls. ….”

    Dear Elizabeth Edwards,

I was stunned just now to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis. I am not a survivor myself, but went through it with my daughter this last year (she was 31). She had the same original type that the article said you have and the treatments for it are so superior to what they were even a few years ago. She is a trouper like you and she is just fine so far. I know you will be in good hands and you so clearly are surrounded by love (which your spirit also seems to effortlessly exude). But it is a tough haul nonetheless — for the whole family — and I wish you all the best. I am thinking how hard this last week must have been, needing to be in the spotlight and not having time to get the answers you personally want to have, all for the good of the country.

    You are in my prayers.

    Dear Elizabeth:

In the year 2000 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and axillary node dissection. It was the second time I had to deal with cancer, Twelve years before I had surgery for thyroid cancer. In 2000 I was working as a personal fitness trainer and writing a fitness column Ask Alice for the Albuquerque Journal North. .

I lost all my clients during this time because I had difficulty on my left side, primarily from the lymph node dissection.

I created exercises to further my physical recovery and began an exercise class at the cancer treatment center at St. Vincent’s Hospital, in Santa Fe New Mexico. The class was received with such enthusiasm I decided to produce an exercise video.

I approached the breast cancer drug company AstraZeneca to underwirite the cost and distribute the video as a premium item to their physicians. They bought 20,000 videos.

I wrote, produced, raised the money and stared in my very first video:Alicethenics: Exercises To Increase Freedom Of Movement After Breast Surgery. I began this project during my radiation

The exercises in this video not only healed my operated side it gave my life a purpose. Via Alicethenics I have assisted women throughout the United States and Canada during their recovery from breast cancer surgery.. This year the video will be distributed in Europe.

I have been invited to speak and do workshops at cancer treatment centers, support groups and at destination spas. Every event is so healing for both me and the participants.

I hope to produce a second video, Alicethenics II: A Year After Breast Surgery,Strength Training And Stretch. I am presently looking for funding.

I hope you will send your readers to my website via a link and/ or my story.
I would like to give survivors going through their journey hope and a positive outlook on their future. Yes, a nightmare can become a dream

    Mrs. Edwards,

Please thank your husband and John Kerry for running. They were a great team that offered true hope for America.

I want to share a couple of alternative health websites that offer hope for cancer patients who are willing to make some simple changes to their diets and lifestlyes.

The first site is http://www.drday.com which features the story of how Dr. Lorraine Day succesfully beat breast cancer several years ago.

The other site is from Hallelujah Acres in Shelby, NC outlining a program of nutrition for optimum health that I have personally followed for 5+ years now. While I wasn’t facing a major health crisis at the time, it has made a temendous difference in the health and vitality I’ve enjoyed from age 50 to 55. It’s http://www.hacres.com.

Good luck to you and your family in the future. I hope you’ll consider the alternatives that these websites offer.

  16. Dena Wheeler says:

    Dear Ms. Edwards,

I was very sorry to hear about your breast cancer daignosis. I was diagnosed with breast cancer the end of June and am currently going through Chemotherapy. I have good days and bad days. You will be fine. If you were able to survive the death of a child, you can survive anything.

I still can’t believe that Bush won the first election, so you can only imagine my frustration that he won a second time.

I watched you at a town hall meeting on TV and was extremely impressed. I want you to get better and consider running for President. You are so intelligent and we need a woman in the office of President so we can get the country back on track.

Please take care and spend time being good to yourself. This is a time in your life when you need to put yourself first.

My very best wishes for you.
    Dena

  17. Rose says:

    Dear Elizabeth,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 8 years ago. I had the same type, ductal carcinoma. There was no history in my family of cancer of any kind, and I got yearly mammograms. Mine was more advanced than yours, and I had four positive lymph nodes. I had the transplant version of chemo (my doctor gave me a choice and I felt that if I took the milder form and the cancer came back, I would kick myself). While I was taking the chemo, I thought that if I survived the chemo, I would live to be 100. Well I survived the chemo AND the radiation, so now that I will live to be AT LEAST 100, I have a new life. I am an 8-year survivor, and I go around and tell women about the importance of mammograms and breast self-exams, I also tell men to check themselves, because they do not expect to get it and when they find out, it is usually too late to do anything about it, AND, I am applying to Oxford University for their one year (12-month) MBA Program. By the way, I am 61 years old (I will be 62 in December). I will be praying for you and I know that you will do fine. You have the most curable form and that is very fortunate for you. You just have to think positive thoughts, I do Yoga and T’ai Chi and am healthier than I was when I was younger (I also have better eating habits).
    God Bles you.

    Rose
