Sea Lion Records has made Election Day USA, a CD compilation of anti-Bush, anti-war music, free for download as .mp3s. I'm a sucker for political songs—even those I disagree with, so I enjoyed these even if they're not all musically top-notch. Besides, I agreed with most of them. And, some of them are pretty good on any terms, especially (in no particular order),
- John McCutcheon, Let’s Pretend (I actually heard this one on the radio once)
- The Positive Chi Units, Rise Up!
- Coiler, Rogue Nation
- John Kasper, Conspiracy of Silence
- Kris Penn, Coming Home No More
- Musical Graffiti, Peace Inside
- David Rovics, The War Is Over
… and then there's the Sonofa Bush rap which isn't my sort of thing, but will appeal to some.
Why does all this remind me of The Folk Song Army?
Bonus, funny, equal-opportunity-offender (from jibjab, via half the blogs in the world, which is probably why sever keeps saying it's overloaded): Jibjab does This Land
Oh my. I did not know anyone but me ever heard of Tom Leherer!
Ready, Aim, Sing!!!!
Of course, the Vatican Rag was pretty good too. Then there was “once the Rockets Go up Who cares where they come down; That’s not my department says Werner Von Braun”.
Okay okay….
I just didn’t think a bowtie would listen to Tom Leherer. 😉
(Of course neither would a recovering engineer).
Still, it isn’t Bob Dylan, “With God on Our SIde.”
In my last year of law school, I copied all the anti-war songs I remembered (from another time) and liked onto
a CD and gave them to some young law students.
Soon after, a poster went up with some of the lyrics. That was only a year ago, but it was a time I will not soon forget. Oh yes, that was the year of M. M was in my ConLaw II class taught by Professor Winick. M tried to convince Professor Winick that the wealthy were a “suspect class”. Hmmm, I guess it all depends on what is meant by “suspect”.
Instead of making illegal copies, why not try some free samples of even better music: http://www.therightbrothers.com/
They are not illegal copies. The publishers invite the public to download them. See the web site.
“Copying” is not always illegal, MP.
“I copied all the anti-war songs … and gave them to some young law students.”
Aha, for scholarly purposes.
My network administrator has blocked access to jibjab. Anyone know another server hosting the
“This Land” parody? Thanks in advance?
Try this link to plur.net.
PLUR.NET isn’t working for me either.
It filters the word, “Tasteless” and won’t let JIBJAB.COM through.
Well, at least it aired in it’s entirety this morning on the NBC TODAY show. Quite funny!!!!

The recent events in Wisconsin made me think of Tom Leherer’s Hunting Song. “twas a year ago November, how well I do remember, I went out to shoot some deer…”
