Advice for Those Seeking Academic Jobs
This USA Today article contains important advice for anyone seeking employment as a law teacher (or any other job, I'd imagine). CEOs (and, I can assure you, law faculties) believe that, "A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter, or to others, is not a nice person."
Indeed, I can think of one person who interviewed at UM some time in the last few years who I think might well have gotten a job offer back then but for the oft-repeated story of how s/he treated a waiter...

Apparently this Office Depot CEO doesn't shop at his own stores in the Washington, DC, area. His employees in Metropolitan Washington are rude and stupid. I think I'll pass this complaint on to him and see if I get a response. Do you think that he will live up to his words?

Treating people like dirt is perfectly acceptable, of course, if you're the Dean of a law school. Ours, for example, is famous for berating janitorial staff by bursting into their office and exclaiming, at the top of his/her lungs, "I'm _____, I'm the Dean of _______ Law School, and I want this place clean!"
