it occurred to me this morning that bush's performance, at least physically, consisted of:

a) a hunched back
b) furtive, searching glances towards someone (something?)
in the audience
c) inability to respond quickly

the obvious explanation will no doubt be apparent to readers of heinlein's "the puppet masters":

bush is clearly being ridden by an evil creature from another world that has sucked his soul and his free will away.
a creature like dick cheney, but...smaller.

this theory also explains all the people who look point-blank into a news camera and assert that the war in iraq would have been justified even if they knew there were no wmd's and there were no threat whatsoever.

next time you hear this, look at the person's back. it will be turned away from the camera, no doubt, to hide the hump.

this is the simplist theory that addresses all the facts, so therefore it must be true.

Bush: hunched back, furtive, totally unable to respond to questions. A weasel.

The debate revealed the *real* Bush -- a pompous, superficial, self-absorbed, inept, malicious, privileged son of a failed president. His bumbling attempts to match up pre-rehearsed sound bite with the questions would have been laughable, if they were not so disturbing.

In every grimace and twisted facial expression, Bush showed his disgust at being put in a position to have to explain himself to the American public. He said it once himself - it would be "easier" & he clearly would prefer being emperor.

This is all well and good. But I just need an explanation for all the blinking. Did someone put salt in this man's visine?

That actually has a real answer. He was up past his bed time.

That's too easy an answer, Mojo. All three of our last Republican presidents have been up past their bedtime by default any time they were actually up...its the Reagan Nap Prerogative.

"Let me finish," said Bush, one minute into a 90 second answer, at a time when no one else in the auditorium was speaking, nor was Lehrer signalling him to stop (Bush had 30 seconds left).

It's in the transcript and on the tapes. Just like the infamous "this is scripted" statement during the press conference in the spring.

There is a theory that he had a micro earpiece. That he was telling Rove (or whomever) to shut up.

An alternate theory is that he hears voices that aren't there.

A third theory is that he practiced "let me finish" in the anticipation that Kerry would interrupt, and he automatically said those words when he lost his train of thought.

Theory one explains it best, and also accounts for some of the unusual pauses in the debate and in press conferences. It is a but tinfoil hat, but it is also verifiable if one had access to the debate room. There should be wireless signals that could be interecepted and recorded.

I notice that "let me finish" thing too. I assumed that someone in the audience had done something, or signalled him, or whatever, off-camera.

It is a little wierd, if you think about it. The warning light hadn't even gone off yet.

I think my original theory explains it though. He was obviously communicating back to the "mother brain"
that controls the creature riding him, arguing that it wanted to maintain control of Bush.
