This is what I call a great error message:

I even love the file’s name, “ono-freakout.gif”.
Yes, but what you really want is the plastic-ono-freakout.gif.
Posted by: Doug at February 18, 2005 04:32 PMYes, it's funny, unless you're in a hurry then they could be even more witty and you will still want to slap them.
Posted by: Random Visitor at February 18, 2005 06:35 PMI thought we did a fair job with our error message, too. But I'm biased.
Posted by: Kevin Hayden at February 19, 2005 01:31 AMNo, no, no, THIS is clearly the best error message ever.
Posted by: Paul Gowder at February 19, 2005 10:52 AMI'm with Random. Funny, yes, unless you're in the middle of an aggravating transaction when the site craps out on you.
I'm similarly underwhelmed by the chatty, slangy text used on Washington Mutual ATMs, which are substantially less funny when it's after hours and the machine is out of deposit envelopes, cash or whatever. I'll bet they're also a hoot to the many visitors to the area whose understanding of English (and Spanish) doesn't extend to the slang on the ATM.
